Position Overview:

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Assist others in the department to administer LEED GA training. Provide appropriate materials to those seeking credentialing
  • Organize, and help to administer LEED AP training, for both BD+C and ID+C programs. Provide appropriate materials to those seeking credentialing
  • Create and administer internal sustainability training for other green building topics as needed (Living Building Challenge, Well Building, Fitwel, Net Zero Energy)
  • Assist in creation of marketing materials
  • Assist in response to project pursuits and proposals
  • Lead project set-up and rollouts for project seeking LEED certification
  • Continuously update template plans and tracking devices for use on project seeking LEED certification
  • Assist project teams in LEED administration and documentation
  • Lead team in LEED construction phase submittal
  • Lead project team in Onsite Sustainability Program (OSP) set-up, including initial checklist and implementation items
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor implementation progress of OSP onsite
  • Evaluate onsite environmental controls, offering suggestions to teams for increased performance related to waste, materials, soil and erosion control, etc
  • Assist in departmental support of XL’s Self-haul program (construction waste)
  • Assist in updating OSP project tracker for communication of project progress related to the OSP
  • Assist in researching emerging green building programs, developing associated tracking tools, education tools, and marketing materials
  • Research innovative construction materials, products, and tools that assist in achieving overall project sustainability, and green building certification systems
  • Industry Relations
    • Maintains a strong network in the external sustainability community
    • He/she is an active participant in industry organizations and events.
    • Looks for opportunities to speak on panels, participate in working groups and presentations that promote, directly or indirectly, XL’’s approach and expertise.
  • Manage project team LEED process
    • Lead process of project execution planning for new projects. This may include:
      • Review preconstruction specification and instruction to bidders on LEED requirements
      • Partner with the design team members to ensure LEED requirements are properly addressed in their specifications
      • Develop budget for sustainability team

Conduct trade partner training, as needed, to improve LEED Materials and Indoor Air Quality credit performance

  • Give teams guidance on credit tracking, and trouble shoot specific products
  • Facilitate meetings between XL’s Project Team, trade partners and design partners to address and resolve issues
  • Benchmark and record agreed content for use in the field
  • Provide knowledge specific to a variety of construction environments including pharmaceutical, biotech, education, commercial office, civic, and healthcare projects
  • Strive to continuously develop skills in our core applications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience in LEED project setup and administration across both BD+C and ID+C programs
    • Ability to create and apply LEED plans for construction phase credits
    • Ability to recommend compliance paths and alternatives to achieve LEED credits
  • Experience in project team facilitation on LEED projects
  • Experience in sustainability programming, including goal setting and metrics tracking
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to work on projects when needed
  • Ability to speak internally and externally as a subject matter expert
  • Ability to form strong relationships internally and externally to facilitate project success
  • Ability to manage other team members, and divide workload appropriately
  • Willingness to pursue continued education in LEED, Sustainability and Environmental aspects for XL’s project needs
  • Proficiency demonstrated in:
    • LEED online
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint programs
  • Proficiency preferred, but not required in:
    • Environmental compliance
    • Environmental management in construction
    • Green building programs and regulations (CalGreen, Title 24, Living Building Challenge, Well)
  • Has proven project support experience
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction and coordination with staff and clients
  • Demonstrates organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Shows energy, reliability, dependability and flexibility
