Weinreb Group is proud to partner with an independent global infrastructure investment manager with offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia and with over 200 employees.
The Principal, ESG role will report to the Chairman, and will work with Stakeholders across the firm to develop (i) a forward-looking ESG strategy; (ii) an ESG framework; (iii) a global operating model; (iv) integrated approach to firmwide ESG data aggregation; and (v) a corporate engagement strategy. The role will partner with the Chairman, Heads of Asset Management, and Stakeholders throughout the organization.
This role will be responsible for building an ESG team and ensuring the necessary resources are in place to support the firm’s ESG strategy.
Job Description:
ESG Policy, Standards, Program
- Develop a forward-looking ESG strategy across all verticals, products, geographies (policy, standards, program, metrics)
- Develop and drive corporate engagement in ESG and Sustainability with Executive Leadership, Stakeholders, and Employees
- Build an ESG Team and resources to implement ESG strategy/program across Investment due diligence process and portfolio companies
- Maintain an understanding of international best practices on ESG management to ensure that the firm’s ESG policies and procedures remain best-in-class
- Develop ESG framework, tools, and risk model to support investment team with ESG monitoring and engagement with existing and new investments
- Improve ESG policies, data collection and reporting of funds and portfolio company level
- Development internal / external communication strategy for funds’ ESG activities and communication to investors and stakeholders of ESG performance
- Evolve the firm’s approach to climate risk management and TCFD at the portfolio and portfolio company level, including scenario analysis and disclosure
- Refine the annual ESG survey of existing portfolio companies to monitor ESG performance and develop an annual ESG report and other requisite reporting for the firm’s current and prospective investors
- Track relevant ESG, sustainability and environmental disclosure and regulatory developments and industry trends, with a focus on carbon, chemicals, and sustainable feedstocks
- Deliver annual impact reports
Due Diligence
- Partner with portfolio companies to advance their sustainability strategies, including technical guidance and support to management teams, through coaching and sharing best practices
- Remain up to date on ESG trends and developments and translate them into actionable improvements in investment activities and oversight of portfolio companies
- Assist portfolio companies in setting up, monitoring and revising ESG framework and conducting analysis of performance identifying areas for enhancement
- Support ESG, climate and regulatory diligence on new investment opportunities and work with deal teams to integrate findings into underwriting and investment committee materials
- Support portfolio companies to develop and execute ESG value creation plans and decarbonization strategies, including the setting of science-based targets where appropriate
Support Value Creation and Risk mitigation Amongst Portfolio Companies
- Support firm globally to assess and benchmark ESG regulatory standards
- Work closely with investment professionals and other colleagues to facilitate improved understanding and integration of ESG factors into investment decisions and throughout the investment lifecycle, covering both risks and opportunities Investments
- Support the investment platform on developing ESG policy for new investments
- Develop ESG framework and tools to support the investment team in making informed integrated assessment of both fundamental/financial and ESG risk
- Develop ESG risk model to support investment team with ongoing ESG monitoring and engagement with existing investments
- Propose performance evaluation criteria to support the investment team in assessing the positive financial impact of ESG initiatives in portfolio companies
- Work with banks and Funds to develop ESG risk appraisal tools and appropriate monitoring and reporting frameworks for investments
- Remain up to date on ESG trends and developments and translate them into actionable improvements for Funds capital deployment and investment activities and oversight of portfolio companies
Professional Experience / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in a sustainability/ESG leadership role within the infrastructure investment strategy applying internationally recognized ESG Standards (currently North America, Europe & Latin America)
- Knowledgeable in global standards related to socially responsible/ESG investing and reporting, including but not limited to UN Principles for Responsible Investing, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, and Global Reporting Initiative
- Experience measuring and reporting on ESG impacts of projects
- Solid understanding of how ESG concerns relate to material business risks and opportunities
- Demonstrated excellent people skills, including the ability to motivate, inspire and lead, and work together at a high level with senior management and staff at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, developing cooperative relationships internally and externally
