Job Overview
Leadership position with EarthX’s internal EarthxCapital team which has a mission is to help raise awareness, educate, convene, and catalyze impact related to investment and business innovation in environmental sustainability, clean technology, conservation, and resilience & adaptation by connecting leading investors, innovators, industry, dealmakers, and the innovation community in the United States and globally with a significant focus on Texas and the broader South/Southwest.
Responsibilities & Duties
1. Management & Administrative
- Manage relationships and seek “buy-in” from internal & external EarthX Stakeholder
- Develop clear identifiable, achievable, & quantifiable goals/targets to drive impact
- Develop annual EarthxCapital financial budget
- Manage internal direct reports and external consultants to execute various EarthxCapital initiatives. Serve as a mentor for junior staff. Support professional development
- Develop and manage EarthxCapital Advisory Board and other relevant volunteers.
2. Industry Thought Leadership
- Research, identify, and analyze industry trends related to sustainability and cleantech investing in various investment asset classes and innovation across industries.
- Conduct a strategic competitive analysis of EarthxCapital events and programming, including proposing new content opportunities and other initiatives and programs
- Conduct a sustainability investment and innovation market landscape analysis, including identifying key investors, innovators, industry leaders, dealmakers, and innovation ecosystem leaders, including helping identify source, secure, and manage various Innovation Ecosystem Partners for the E-Capital Summit
3. Developing Investment & Business Sustainability Ecosystem
- Identify and develop relationships with investors (US & Texas-based family offices, foundations, HNWs, & endowments), sustainability focused asset managers (private equity & venture capital firms, hedge funds, other investors), sustainability-focused innovators (early-stage start-ups & late-stage growth), & Global Fortune 500 corporations that drive corporate sustainability
- Identify and develop relationships with institutions in the deal-making ecosystem (investment banks, business brokers, accountants, private wealth management firms, lawyers) and in sustainability ecosystem (non-profits, think-tanks, industry organizations)
4. E-Capital Summit & Year-round EarthxCapital Programming
- Partner with existing EarthX event team and EarthxCapital team to execute annual summit and any ongoing programming, including content guidance & outreach support
- Research key industry themes and develop a list of potential speakers based on internal & external recommendations and broader research
- Assist EarthX team with all E-Capital Summit and other EarthxCapital events marketing activities, including leading direct outreach to potential ateendees and marketig partners
- Help create and manage different E-Capital Summit & EarthxCapital marketing assets (i.e. brochures, agendas, overview presentations, sponsorship decks, etc.
- Develop new and manage existing relationships with Strategic Partners and Innovation Ecosystem Partners to maximize thought leadership and awareness of events
- Lead developing and hosting of annual E-Capital Summit event, including content curation, topic discovery, speaker and participant identification, and marketing
- Assist with managing E-Capital Summit’s Innovator review process, including identifying potential Innovator participants and conducting desk-level reviews of Innovator applications and pitch decks to ascertain accepted participants in events, including various award and pitch competitions
- Assist with hosting E-Capital Summit’s EarthX Climate Tech Prize pitch competition
5. Sponsorship and Business Development
- As a non-profit organization, EarthX is highly reliant on external financial sponsors to support its annual programming, including signature events like the E-Capital Summit. Therefore, the Director will be responsible for leading all sponsorship and business development efforts for the E-Capital Summit and other events with broader EarthX team.
- Manage business development process from start to finish, including identifying potential sponsors, creating and managing relationships, and executing necessary sponsor management paperwork.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of work experience
- Strong project management skills with ability to set and meet deadlines across various work streams for short-term and long-term initiatives. Ability to multitask efficiently and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to manage both upward and downward internally and help manage and collaborate with external parties.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to pay attention to detail. Ability to anticipate potential challenges and ability to develop back-up plans, including solving last minute problems
- Highly professional and ability to represent organization at senior level, invitation-only events
- Motivated self-starter and ability to operate with little guidance in order to meet objectives
- Excellent math, critical thinking, and verbal & written communication skills. Ability to be flexible and able to work independently or in a project team setting.
- Interest in business, investment, finance, & innovation, specifically around environmental sustainability and cleantech, with knowledge and interest in learning about industry trends
- Proficient in basic computer software programs (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook) and business development software like Salesforce
- Work schedule is subject to change based on event requirements and other relevant deliverables to achieve objectives, including potential weekends and after-hours assignments.
