Responsibilities
ESG Strategy Development:
- Create a 2026 ESG strategy/plan,, liaising with the external ESG advisor and the Board, including defining the pillars and initiatives (e.g., GHG emission reduction, DEI agenda, cyber security, work safety, business integrity and ethics)
- Guide/coordinate the development of the best operating standards while implementing the ESG plan by interacting with the rest of the Company to permeate the culture and involve all relevant Stakeholders
- Set KPIs and targets to measure the success of the prioritized initiatives, including timing, budget and milestones for each initiative in close collaboration with the respective initiative owners
- In the first months, coordinate a special project to setup the 2026 ESG strategy/plan, liaising with the external ESG advisor and the Board
ESG Strategy Implementation:
- Provide periodic ESG updates to the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Advisors
- Draft the annual Sustainability Report and ensure proper dissemination
- Coordinate the work on ESG assessments/ratings (e.g. SBTi, S&P, EcoVadis)
- In the long term, be responsible for ongoing development and improvement of company ESG strategy, and communication of it internally and externally
- Act as pivot in orchestrating the work of the ESG initiative owners during the implementation journey
- Develop and manage (and in some cases identify and introduce) the data systems for tracking ESG performance
- Use previous experience in the ESG field to guide the development of the best operating standards for ESG initiatives and tracking
ESG Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work with Internal Communications and the Executive Leadership Team to engage all employee groups with education on ESG priorities and communication of ESG successes with the goal to increase identification with Company X as an employer with a goal of employee retention
- Closely liaise with the DEI Champion and HR to integrate DEI efforts in the employer branding, thereby gaining access to all available talent pools
- Work cross-functionally to develop successful public relations strategies on ESG, supporting Company X’s growth aspirations, in particular with the US DoD and UK MoD
- Building relationships with relevant external stakeholders and partnership organizations (e.g., UN Global Compact, PRI, SMI, SBTi, Carbon Trust, EcoVadis)
- Participate in relevant Industry and Supply Chain ESG organizations
- Credibly present Company X’s ESG agenda and successes to potential acquirers in the exit process
ESG Roadmap beyond 2026:
- Support the business to keep abreast with emerging ESG regulations, e.g., by closely liaising with the customer community and regulatory bodies, and integrate relevant updates into the program
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements in Company X’s relevant geographies
- Be responsible for ongoing development and improvement of Company X’s ESG strategy
- Develop strategies to meet long-term regulatory and customer requirements
- Condense those priorities into a long-term ESG plan for the 2026+ timeframe
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in ESG role
- Experience with Diversity & Inclusion, mitigating climate risk, and governance/ data protection
- Additional 3+ years of former experience in other functional areas (e.g. HR, Operations, Marketing & Sales)
- Former experience in ESG related consulting is appreciated
- Experience working with Government customers and industrial companies is a plus
- Track record of building positive relationships among stakeholders, finding resources throughout an organization, and leveraging those connections to build consensus in executing large-scale organizational changes
- Partners and collaborates with peers and senior leadership team. Communicates well at President and CXO level as well as to engineers. De-mystifies the ESG speak for business leaders
- Superior influencing skills and action-orientation to interact in a push-pull model with business and functional leaders, inserting passion and rigor into the ESG program while supporting the business with specific ESG knowledge and hands-on support when needed
- Willingness to learn new things and inspire a desire to do the same in others
- Strong and proven project management skills
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Has successfully operated in a high-performance, ideally PE-backed, business
- Open to domestic and international travel as necessary
