Job Description

Company X Inc. is a global leader in the animal health industry.

The role of Head of Sustainability Operations is responsible to operationalize our strategic strategic plan.

This role reports to the Senior Vice President Global Quality, Sustainability & EHS within Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) and is a member of the GMS Leadership Team. This role is the principal connection for GMS on sustainability matters and leads development and implementation of Company X’s climate strategy. This role is accountable for compilation and external reporting of the environmental metrics, and develops and executes strategies to address issues such as energy use, resource conservation, recycling, waste minimization pharmaceuticals in the environment, and sustainable building design.

  • Energy Program Lead
  • Sustainable Packaging project manager

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic direction to operationalize the Company X corporate targets to Protect our Planet, steward resources responsibly and minimize our impact, as we deliver products and services that advance the health of animals
  • Partner with the GMS LT, the Corporate Head of Sustainability and other Company X business units as necessary to embed sustainability considerations into Company X business processes and strategies.
  • Provide oversight of the GMS sustainability initiatives and the Climate Strategy. Develop KPIs to track performance.
  • Develop and maintain a robust, audit-ready environmental data collection process to support external reporting including, but not limited to, the corporate sustainability report,  CDP Climate, CDP water, and the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework
  • Participate in the Company X Sustainability Governance process, including the Planet Steering Council and the packaging and climate working groups.
  • Develop methodologies to assess the viability or success of sustainability projects and initiatives. Review and adapt portfolio of sustainability initiatives regularly.
  • Work alongside our internal sites as well as our supply chain partners to identify opportunities to implement and adopt more sustainable solutions.
  • Provide strategic direction to build tools and guidelines to embed sustainability consideration and data collection into our capital, operational excellence, cost improvement and EHS programs.
  • Provide expertise on sustainability trends and implications. Monitor and assess risks associated with sustainability regulations, reporting requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Support functions/platforms through coaching and training on the implementation of sustainability initiatives. Ensure a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment, with continuous individual and team development consistent with current industry standards, trends and knowledge.
  • Ensure that annual operating plan inputs around sustainability result in cohesive set of actions to meet sustainability targets
  • Participate in external industrial groups, such as the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI).

Requirements

  • BA required. MBA or advanced degree preferred,  Degree in science, engineering or sustainability preferred.
  • Background in sustainability and environmental programs implementation; track record of leading sustainability functional teams to deliver business objectives
  • Strong presence and collaborative working style with the ability to drive cross-functional projects
  • History of being resourceful and self-motivated, with ability to operate with limited direction and prioritize based on business and stakeholder value
  • Leader with superior analytical skills, exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Relevant sustainability experience within a fast paced manufacturing environment preferably in close link with Business
  • Capable of presenting information C suite management with supporting analysis and assumptions.
  • Strong ability to influence. Must have a high level of personal credibility as a spokesperson for sustainability.
  • Proven ability to deal with complexity and manage relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders/sites.
  • Change Management experience and ability to lead any change process.
  • Ability to utilize technology to improve sustainability efficiency and performance
